Holiday Grief Support Group
For many, the holidays are the “most wonderful time of the year.” But for many others, the end of the year can be filled with grief, hardship, and memories of absent loved ones. Loss can cause people to feel like they are on the outside looking in and unable to relate to those who are enjoying the festivities. Loss can distort Christmastime into pain as it feels like the world is marching on, while inside it feels like the world should or did stop. It is for these reasons that The Collaborative Therapy Center is offering support at this particular time.
Beginning Nov. 12th, our associate therapist, Michelle Bourgerie, LMFT will be leading a series of 5 group-therapy sessions where people are welcome to share their grief and gain a sense of community. Starting with the, “Griever’s Holiday Bill of Rights,” each session will focus on a different topic related to supporting your grief during this season.
While sessions will have organized topics for discussion, attendees will also have the opportunity to process their own unique experiences. Healing happens even if you’re not ready or able to share, so one is required to talk if listening is what you need. Sometimes hearing other people talk about their own grief can be so affirming and validating. All are welcome to simply come, listen, support, and be supported in return.
Grief groups can be hard to join because no one “wants” to attend - we wish that this group wasn’t needed at all, because it means that something has happened that has caused a profound amount of pain. This is a very vulnerable position to be in. For anyone unsure about attending, we recommend trying out 3 sessions. If you feel it’s not a good fit, you are under no obligation.
These group therapy sessions will meet in-person at our center in Carlsbad. The fee is $200 ($40 a session) for 5 - 1.5hr sessions. That’s 7.5 hours worth of therapy for the price of a single session.
Come as you are. No need to bring anything besides yourself.
